Oraciones con “will” interrogativo

Will es un verbo modal en inglés que se utiliza para expresar futuro. Will no tiene traducción al español. Se utiliza junto a un verbo en infinitivo. Por ejemplo: I will wait here. / Esperaré aquí.

En las oraciones interrogativas con will, como en todas las preguntas en inglés, existe inversión entre el auxiliar y el sujeto, es decir que will va antes que el sujeto. Por ejemplo: Will you marry me? / ¿Te casarás conmigo?

Para tener en cuenta: Will es invariable, es decir, no cambia según el pronombre. Por ejemplo: Will you come? / Will he come?

Preguntas con will

Existen dos tipos de preguntas con will: yes / no questions y wh- questions.

Por ejemplo: Will you study more next time? / ¿Estudiarás más la próxima vez?

  • Wh- questions: Las preguntas wh- requieren información como respuesta. Cuando se formulan en futuro simple, se antepone un adverbio interrogativo (what, when, where) a will:

Por ejemplo: Where will you go? / ¿Dónde irás?

Para formular preguntas negativas, se utiliza won’t en lugar de will. Las preguntas negativas pueden expresar sentimientos como sorpresa o crítica. Por ejemplo: Won’t you come? / ¿No vendrás?

Para responder a preguntas con will, se utiliza will o won’t, según corresponda:

Por ejemplo: Will you come over? Yes, I will. / No, I won’t.

Atención: Para responder a preguntas cortas no se repite el verbo principal. Por ejemplo: Will you study? Yes, I will. / No, I won’t. (Y no: Yes, I will study).

¿Cuándo se utilizan las preguntas con will?

Algunos usos de las preguntas con will son:

  • Pedidos. Junto al pronombre you. Por ejemplo: Will you help me with my homework? / ¿Me ayudarías con mi tarea?
  • Promesas. Por ejemplo: Will you be a good boy? / ¿Serás un buen niño?
  • Opiniones sobre el futuro. Generalmente, junto a verbos tales como think, believe, guess. Por ejemplo: Who do you think will win the soccer championship? / ¿Quién crees que ganará el campeonato mundial de fútbol?
  • Acciones futuras (que no estén agendadas ni expresen objetivos). Por ejemplo: How tall will the new hotel in Las Vegas be? / ¿Cuán alto será el nuevo hotel en Las Vegas?
  • Reacciones espontáneas. Por ejemplo: Why will you leave? / ¿Por qué te marcharás?
  • El resultado de una condición (condicional tipo 1). Will se utiliza en la cláusula de resultado (y no en la de condición con if). Por ejemplo: Will you come with us if I ask you to? / ¿Vendrás con nosotros si te lo pido?
