Adverbios interrogativos en inglés

Los adverbios interrogativos en inglés (interrogative adverbs), también llamados wh- words (palabras wh-), son palabras interrogativas que se utilizan para formular preguntas wh- (wh- questions), que requieren información como respuesta. Por ejemplo: Where do you live? / ¿Dónde vives?

Los adverbios interrogativos o wh- words son:

  • what / qué
  • where / dónde
  • when / cuándo
  • who / quién
  • whose / de quién
  • why / por qué
  • which / cuál
  • how / cómo

Los adverbios interrogativos van al inicio de la pregunta. Por ejemplo:

  • When is the party? / ¿Cuándo es la fiesta?
  • What should we bring? / ¿Qué deberíamos traer?
  • Where is it? / ¿Dónde es?

What puede ir acompañado de un sustantivo o frase sustantiva, para hacer más preciso su significado. Por ejemplo: What kind of movies do you like? / Qué tipo de películas te gustan?

How puede ir seguido de un pronombre, adverbio o determinante, según el contexto. How + adjetivo o adverbio significa “cuán” o “cuánto(s)”. Por ejemplo:

  • How much are these shoes? / ¿Cuánto cuestan estos zapatos?
  • How far is it to the train station? / ¿Cuán lejos queda la estación de tren?

¿What o which?

What se utiliza para referirse a un número ilimitado de opciones, mientras que which se utiliza cuando el número de opciones es limitado. Por ejemplo:

  • What is your name?
  • Which one do you prefer, the big one or the small one?

    ¿Quién es aquel hombre?
  11. When did you last see him?
    ¿Cuándo lo viste por última vez?
  12. Which is the right answer?
    ¿Cuál es la pregunta correcta?
  13. How did you cook the chicken?
    ¿Cómo cocinaste el pollo?
  14. When is she coming back?
    ¿Cuándo volverá?
  15. Where did you leave the keys?
    ¿Dónde dejaste las llaves?

    ¿Cuándo nació ella?
  21. Whose fault was it?
    ¿De quién fue la culpa?
  22. Who wrote “Pride and Prejudice”?
    ¿Quién escribió “Orgullo y Prejuicio”?
  23. Which wrapping paper do you prefer, the blue one or the red one?
    ¿Qué envoltorio prefieres, el azul o el rojo?
  24. When was the author of the poem born?
    ¿Cuándo nació el autor del poema?
  25. What university do you attend?
    ¿A qué universidad vas?
  26. How is life different in Korea?
    ¿Cómo es de diferente la vida en Corea?
  27. What do you miss the most?
    ¿Qué es lo que más extrañas?
  28. Who are you coming to the party with?
    ¿Con quién vas a venir a la fiesta?
  29. What do your parents do for a living?
    ¿A qué se dedican tus padres?
  30. Where are you and your friends meeting?
